columbia is the opposite of good

work continues to be ridiculously busy (by my standards) and i haven't been able to blog like i want to. this past weekend was nice in that it was 3 days long. louise and i made the mistake of trying to go out and eat on a saturday night (big mistake). she usually works saturday nights, so it' been a while for me, but we found that every restaurant had a waiting time. we had a gift card for the cheesecake factory and went to the one in columbia...well that was an 85 minute wait...no thanks. we then proceeded to go to various other restaurants like macaroni grill, don pablos...they all had waits of at least 45 minutes. while i acknowledge that it was kind of naive of us to assume that we could just go out and eat at an average restaurant on a saturday night without waiting more than 10 minutes...but i was annoyed anyways.

i was also annoyed with columbia, which i never liked, but am disliking more and more these days. everywhere looks the same...and there is such a strong yuppie vibe that i don't particularly care for. i'm not saying laurel is anything great (louise will always let you know it is not) but at least it has some character to it. screw you columbia...i hope to never return to your dumb planned communities and identical streets that lead to identical shopping centers. screw you....that is, until we plan on redeeming out gift card at cheesecake factory...oh and we also got a gift card to the movie theater at columbia mall...oh well, nevermind, i give in.

I take this somewhat personally after having lived there for a little over a year. First of all that place on a sat night is a shitshow because surprisingly people like to eat before/after movies...crazy! I guess Laurel doesn't have a movie theater that people actually go to, only a good gyro place. I'm willing to bet you could have eaten at Champps right next door in a reasonable time and waited at the bar, oh and there some crappy italian place nearby too thats never busy ZING! does he even still work there?

Everything looks the same? By that you mean trees? They purposely put all the eyesore buildings off the main roads so you don't have to constantly look at that crap.

Yuppie vibe? by that I'll assume you mean young 20 something white people? Go join Clayton Bigsby with your racist views! Seriously though I don't see you making this statement if it was any other group of people. Now that I think about it there weren't even that many young people in Columbia.

your assumptions are racist. i made no mention of race. seriously every street in columbia looks exactly the same.

You realize that your behavior is what makes places yuppie, right? Instead of going to a small, independent restaurant with some personality, you go to a strip mall and try to eat at Cheesecake Factory, Macaroni Grill, and Don Pablos.

When you engage in behavior that encourages everything to look the same, you lose your right to complain about it.

yeah...i know that i should not frequent these chain restaurants and generally make an attempt to avoid them. the reason we went to cheesecake factory, in case you did not read that part was because of a gift card we had received. we tried the other restaurants like don pablo's because we were hungry and they were nearby. so i do not think i lose my right to complain about the yuppieness of columbia. people who know me know my general dislike for fridays, bennigans, etc. i am very much a supporter of independently owned restaurants...which are much more plentiful in laurel...just sayin...

Sure thing, man. I try my hardest to encourage small independent restaurants too. I hate that everywhere I go in the US, it all looks exactly the same. The pockets of culture that I can find are getting more and more precious.
